S. Korea's Acting President urges 'thorough readiness' amid tensions with North Korea
During an emergency National Security Council meeting on Monday evening, Han stressed the need for "thorough readiness" against alleged military provocations from North Korea, as reported by a news agency based in Seoul. He emphasized close cooperation with allies and the international community, underpinned by the robust South Korea-US alliance.
“While closely cooperating with friendly countries and the international community based on the solid South Korea-US alliance, please make every effort so that our diplomatic policies for the people and our national interest are carried out without disruption,” Han, who also serves as prime minister, stated.
Separately, North Korea lambasted the recent four-day trilateral naval drill conducted by the US, South Korea, as well as Japan. A north Korean news agency warned that "the enemy states' any provocation and threat will face the overwhelming and decisive counteraction from North Korea."
The escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula underscore the need for vigilance and preparedness on both sides, as the region grapples with the persistent threat of military confrontation.
