S. Korea Pushes Back Hoguk Military Exercise
The military stated the delay aims to uphold a "thorough military readiness posture" to guarantee the smooth execution of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit hosted by South Korea. The high-profile diplomatic event is scheduled for October 31 and November 1 in Gyeongju, a southeastern city.
This adjustment in the military calendar also aligns with President Lee Jae Myung’s administration’s push to ease tensions with North Korea and foster improved inter-Korean relations, the report added.
Since its inception in 1996, the Hoguk exercise has focused on boosting the armed forces' interoperability and strengthening overall military preparedness. North Korea has consistently condemned the joint US-South Korea drills, labeling them rehearsals for a potential invasion.
